A complete programme measuring up with the best

Mechanical measuring wheels can measure lengths, speeds and positions extremely accurately for a wide range of tasks in the manufacturing industry. Now Følsgaard offers the complete range of wheels, arms and encoders.

If a manufacturing process is linear, it is possible to measure length as well as speed and position with a mechanical measuring wheel on the surface of the workpieces. The signals are sent via a moving arm to the encoder, which communicates with the production system. This could be, for example, boards that need to be cut to a certain length, a conveyor belt, or cranes and lifting equipment.

Mechanical measuring wheels are used in a wide range of applications, and with the complete range, Hans Følsgaard A/S can now customise solutions for virtually every conceivable task. As a Technical Partner, impartial advice is the company's core competencies. This position requires staying one step ahead, which has been made easier with the new wheel and arm variants.

Physical measurement converted into data

The physical measurement directly on the surface of the workpieces is converted into linear data via the encoder mounted on the arm of the wheel. However, as the system of measuring wheels must be suitable for many types of application, the individual components are also available in many different versions.

It makes a world of difference, for example, whether the wheel is rolling on a piece of wood, textile, plastic or perhaps along a support rail or similar, which is why the wheels are available in many dimensions, but also with a variety of coatings so that they run optimally.

For example, a mechanical measuring wheel may have a rubber coating mounted as a tyre, a knurled pattern in metal, or be fitted with teeth that grip a conveyor belt or rack. The spring arm is also available in different sizes, and the encoders can be customised to suit your needs and requirements.

The encoders can also 'talk' to common systems such as SSI, CANopen, IO-Link, Ethernet and Profibus. This is an important dimension for a technical partner like Hans Følsgaard A/S, not wanting to commit customers to one specific platform.

Individual counselling and customisation

With spring arms and brackets for pressure up to 40 N, an operating travel of 10-80 mm and wheels with a diameter of 100-300 mm, it requires a steady hand on the wheel when designing and installing a solution.

For Palle Nielsen, Field Application Engineer at Hans Følsgaard A/S, it just emphasises the importance of the specialists at Hans Følsgaard A/S being involved early in the process so that the optimal measurement solution can be integrated into the production line. He explains:

“We have contact with the manufacturer, the latest updates on news and features and a natural curiosity to contribute to an efficient, accurate and above all cost-effective production process. That is why we want to be part of the planning phase, so we can go into details and dimension the optimal solution.”

Bridging the gap to skilled manufacturers

Hans Følsgaard A/S is headquartered in Køge and has a department in Ry, but in fact the company has a large part of the world as its home turf, because solution development and consultancy involves many hand-picked quality manufacturers from both Europe and across the world.

Here Følsgaard acts as a bridge between quality-conscious customers and skilled manufacturers. At Følsgaard, the product specialists have direct contact with the development and product staff at the manufacturers, and therefore Følsgaard can offer customers a direct line to innovation, while manufacturers find it easier to deliver optimal solutions adapted to local requirements and wishes.
